What is the Safest Way to Tan Your Skin?

Sun tanning makes you look and feel good. People are more attracted to individuals with bronze skin. Thus, you may feel more confident by getting a tan. Unfortunately, exposing your skin to the sun can put you at risk of skin cancer. What is the safest way to achieve tanned skin?

Safer Sun Tanning

There’s always the potential for skin damage when you expose yourself to the sun. But it doesn’t mean that you shun the idea of tanning your skin. You can still safely expose your skin to UV light to darken your skin. But do it before 10 am and after 4 pm, when the sun is no longer at its strongest rate.

Although skin experts don’t believe that there’s such a thing as a safe tan, you can protect yourself from sun damage by applying sun tanning oil with a little amount of sunscreen.

How to Achieve Skin Tan?

You can get bronze skin by exposing your melanocytes to UV light to produce melanin. It’s a pigment responsible for darkening your skin. Melanin protects the skin from burning. However, too much light can do serious damage if it penetrates deeply. To safely tan, spend around 15 minutes in the sun. But make sure to do it when the sun is not the strongest.

How Does Sun Tanning Oil Help?

It facilitates the sun tanning process. However, it doesn’t provide the utmost protection to the skin. That’s why you should still not expose your skin to the sun for hours. You can also use a self-tanning product to get a base tan. But make sure that the product is FDA-approved. It is safe because it doesn’t penetrate the skin causing harm. Rather, it only coats the outer layer.

Protecting Your Skin

To protect your skin from damage as a result of UV light exposure, use sunscreen with high SPF. It must be water-resistant and must protect you against UVA and UVB rays. After a few hours, reapply sunscreen.

You should avoid burning your skin. Sunburn is said to increase the risk of melanoma. And don’t use tanning booths and beds that utilize UV light. As mentioned, when you go out to get a tan, it has to be before 10 am or after 4 pm. Because the sun is at its strongest at that time.

Tanning may not generally be considered safe. But it won’t stop you from enjoying the outdoors. You can protect yourself and still get a tan by applying the necessary products. Outdoor activities are good for your health. Sun exposure can also help your body in producing vitamin D. But do it moderately. No matter what the weather is, you can still get burned. So, always protect your skin before going out.
