Can You Use Aloe for Sunburn on Kids?

Aloe for Sunburn

Sunburn can affect anyone, even kids. That’s why you need to protect your child’s skin before getting out. However, if your baby gets a sunburn, don't despair. You can use aloe for sunburn to relieve the blisters.

Treating Sunburn with Aloe for Sunburn Relief

It’s safe to use aloe to treat your child’s sunburn. However, you need to prevent it from happening. Keep in mind that your child’s skin is not yet fully developed. As a result, it’s more prone to skin damage. Children’s or baby’s skin is still very fresh and new. It can easily absorb the sun’s rays and they get sunburned quickly. In that case, you should not allow your toddlers to hang out in the sun for more than half an hour. Otherwise, they’ll burn their skin.

Melanoma

Babies and toddlers can easily develop sunburns. But that’s not the only concern you should keep a look on. Their skin is not yet fully developed. If they get sunburn often, their risk of developing melanoma is heightened. It’s a type of skin cancer that is considered by experts as the most deadly

Symptoms of Sunburns in Toddlers

Because of their underdeveloped skin, sunburn can quickly set in. Even in as little as 15 minutes, sunburn can happen. And if you allow your kids to stay under the sun for more than 30 minutes, expect their skin to appear darker. But it also depends on the time of day your baby is exposed to the sun. It’s best not to expose your baby to the sun between 10 am and 4 pm.

As for the symptoms of sunburn in babies, they are likely the same as sunburn in adults. It means that your baby will develop redness. Your baby will feel pain when you touch the skin. For a simple burn, there’s no need to call your baby’s pediatrician. The redness can still be resolved using aloe vera or a cold bath.

How to Remedy Sunburn for Babies or Toddlers?

As mentioned earlier, sunburn in babies can be resolved if the symptoms are mild. You can use these remedies to make your little ones more comfortable:

Cool Compress

Use a soft washcloth and soak it in cool water. Wring it out before applying it to burned areas. It can help in soothing the skin.

Aloe for Sunburn

Use Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is safe for your baby’s skin. However, you need to use aloe vera made of organic elements. Avoid using options that come with lidocaine or benzocaine. These chemicals are toxic to babies.

Moisturize

In addition to slathering on aloe vera, moisturizing your baby’s skin regularly is also beneficial. But don’t use petroleum jelly. This product can trap heat and block pores, thereby, increasing the risk of infection. Instead, use a hypoallergenic cream to keep the skin moisturized.
